SEOUL, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's corporate revenue hits the highest growth last year due to demand recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, central bank data showed Wednesday.

Revenue among 175,101 manufacturers and 683,465 non-manufacturers jumped 17.0 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

It rebounded after dwindling by 1.1 percent in 2020, marking the fastest increase since data began to be compiled in 2009.

The turnaround was attributed to the recovery in domestic demand despite the continuing pandemic.

Sales by manufacturers advanced by 18.1 percent in 2021, after skidding 2.3 percent in the previous year.

Revenue for non-manufacturers went up 15.3 percent last year, rebounding from a reduction of 0.01 percent in the prior year.

The ratio of operating profit to revenue for local companies rose 1.4 percentage points over the year to 5.6 percent in 2021.

The debt-to-equity ratio stood at 120.3 percent at the end of 2021, up from 118.3 percent a year earlier.
