NEW YORK, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks finished mixed on Tuesday, weighed by a momentum in U.S. Treasury yields.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 37.63 points, or 0.11 percent, to 33,241.56. The S&P 500 sank 15.57 points, or 0.40 percent, to 3,829.25. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 144.64 points, or 1.38 percent, to 10,353.23.

Six of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with consumer discretionary and communication services down 1.64 percent and 1.18 percent, respectively, leading the laggards. Energy rose 1.14 percent, the best-performing group.

An uptick in U.S. government bond yields weighed on equities, in particular, growth stocks.

The yield on the benchmark U.S. 10-year Treasury rose by around 10 basis points to trade at 3.85 percent in late trading on Tuesday, while the yield on the 2-year Treasury note was up by 6 basis points to 4.38 percent.

On the economic front, the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller U.S. home price index report released on Tuesday showed that the 20-city composite fell 0.5 percent in October, its fourth monthly decline, as high interest rates put pressure on potential home buyers.

A broader measure of home prices, the U.S. national index, decreased a seasonally adjusted 0.3 percent in October from September, showed the report.
