HANOI, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's consumer price index (CPI) in February rose 4.31 percent year-on-year, led by an increase in the cost of housing, tourism services and food, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said on Tuesday.

The cost of education, up 10.4 percent in February, contributed the most to the inflation, followed by housing and construction materials prices, which rose 7.88 percent year on year in the period, and the cost of culture, entertainment and tourism services up 4.74 percent, according to the GSO.

The consumer price index edged up 0.45 percent compared with last month and 0.97 percent from the end of last year, the statistics office said in a statement.

Core inflation, excluding food, energy, and other public services prices, increased 4.96 percent in February from a year earlier and inched up 0.25 percent from January, the GSO said.
