Morocco's CPI up 9.4 pct in Q1

RABAT, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 9.4 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2023, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) announced Thursday.

Food prices rose by 18.2 percent, while non-food prices climbed 3.5 percent, said the HCP.

The core CPI, which excludes energy and subsidized food products, rose by 8.4 percent year-on-year, it said.

Morocco's GDP expanded by 3 percent in the 1st quarter of 2023, and is expected to level off in the second quarter to 3.2 percent, it added.
