PHNOM PENH, April 19 (Xinhua) -- The central banks of Cambodia and Rwanda have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aiming at strengthening cooperation in different areas of financial sector development, said a National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) press statement on Wednesday.

The MoU was inked last Friday between NBC's deputy governor Chea Serey and National Bank of Rwanda governor John Rwangombwa on the sidelines of the IMF Spring Meetings in Washington D.C., the United States, the statement said.

"The main purpose of this MoU is to focus on the cooperation in developing the financial innovation and payment system, and to share related information on innovation and digital payments in financial services as well as to enhance the cooperation on knowledge sharing on financial inclusion and financial literacy," the statement said.

"The collaboration will substantially contribute to the promotion of trade activities and financial inclusion in both countries," the statement said.
