SEOUL, May 30 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's retail sales rose by 4.0 percent last month due to strong demand for food and foreign luxury clothes, government data showed on Tuesday.

Sales by offline retailers gained 4.8 percent last month as the lifting of measures against the COVID-19 pandemic fueled outdoor activities, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Sales among department stores, discount outlets and convenience stores all marked single-digit growth in April.

Revenue among online retailers expanded 3.2 percent in April from a year earlier on the back of solid demand for convenience food and household items.
