Japan books trade deficit for 22nd month in May

TOKYO, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Japan booked a trade deficit in May, the government said in a report on Thursday.

According to the Finance Ministry, the trade deficit in the recording period stood at 1.37 trillion yen (9.7 billion U.S. dollars), with the balance staying in the red for the 22nd consecutive month.

The preliminary report showed that imports in May declined 9.9 percent.

Exports in the same period edged up 0.6 percent, the ministry said.
