S. Korea's online shopping grows 9.1 pct in July

SEOUL, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's online shopping grew in July due to solid demand for travel, food and e-coupon services, statistical office data showed on Monday.

Shopping in cyberspace came in at 18.9 trillion won (14.3 billion U.S. dollars) in July, up 9.1 percent from the same month of last year, according to Statistics Korea.

Online demand for travel and transport services spiked 31.4 percent, and the online transaction of e-coupon services soared 28.1 percent amid the spread of trend to offer gifts such as coffee and cake through e-coupons.

Transaction of food and beverage in cyberspace advanced 15.7 percent, and demand for food delivery services rose 2.4 percent.

Mobile shopping through smartphones increased 6.9 percent over the year to 14.08 trillion won (10.7 billion dollars) in July.
