U.S. crude oil inventories up last week: API

HOUSTON, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The American Petroleum Institute (API) on Tuesday reported an increase of 1.174 million barrels of crude oil in U.S. inventories for the week ending Sept. 8.

Analysts expected a drop of 2 million barrels for this week.

The API reported a decline of 5.521 million barrels in the previous week.

Oil prices rose on Tuesday.

The West Texas Intermediate for October delivery gained 1.55 dollars, or 1.78 percent, to settle at 88.84 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for November delivery went up 1.42 dollars, or 1.57 percent, to settle at 92.06 dollars a barrel on the London ICE Futures Exchange.
