ISLAMABAD, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers increased by 5.3 percent in September month on month, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Tuesday.

The workers' remittances recorded an inflow of 2.206 billion U.S. dollars in September as compared to the previous month's figure of 2.094 billion dollars, the SBP data showed.

Cumulatively, it received an inflow of 6.329 billion dollars in the first three months of the current fiscal year from July 2023 to June 2024, it added.

Last month, overseas remittances mainly came from Saudi Arabia with 538.2 million dollars, the United Arab Emirates with 400 million dollars, Britain with 331.3 million dollars, and the United States with 263.4 million dollars, according to the central bank.

Remittances by overseas workers play an important role in Pakistan's economy as they are one of the major sources of foreign exchange.
