S. Korea's auto export grows for 15th month in September

SEOUL, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's automotive export grew for the 15th straight month due to robust demand for eco-friendly vehicles, government data showed Wednesday.

Car shipment gained 9.5 percent from a year earlier to 5.23 billion U.S. dollars in September, continuing to increase since July last year, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The number of exported vehicles was 197,770 in September, up 1.3 percent from a year earlier.

Export for eco-friendly cars soared 23.3 percent to 1.74 billion dollars, keeping an upward trend for the 10th month since December last year. The number of exported vehicles of this category advanced 10.6 percent to 53,801.

The number of vehicles manufactured in local factories fell 1.9 percent over the year to 301,799 in September.

The number of cars sold in South Korea, including locally-made and imported vehicles, was 133,709 in September, down 4.7 percent from a year earlier.
