MOSCOW, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Russian tourists made 7.06 million trips abroad in the first nine months of 2023, a 50.2 percent increase in comparison to the same period last year, the Russian Tourist Industry Union said Tuesday.

"Russians took 7.06 million tourism trips abroad from January to September," the tourist industry union said, citing figures from the border service of the Russian Federal Security Service.

The number was 50.2 percent up from the same period in 2022 (4.7 million), but only half as much as the pre-pandemic period in 2019 (14.2 million), it said.

The most popular destinations among Russian tourists were Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, which recorded a significant increase in Russian tourist flows in comparison to 2022, the tourist industry union said.
