SEOUL, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's online shopping grew in double digits in October due to solid demand for travel, food and e-coupon services, statistical office data showed Monday.

Shopping in cyberspace amounted to 20.09 trillion won (15.4 billion U.S. dollars) in October, up 11.8 percent from the same month of last year, according to Statistics Korea.

It marked the highest monthly figure since relevant data began to be compiled in 2001.

Online demand for travel and transport services spiked 28.6 percent, and the online transaction of e-coupon services soared 48.9 percent on the back of the spreading trend to provide gifts such as coffee and cakes through e-coupons.

Transaction of food and beverage in cyberspace advanced 15.6 percent, and demand for culture and leisure services expanded 23.1 percent.

Mobile shopping through smartphones increased 10 percent over the year to 14.72 trillion won (11.3 billion dollars) in October.
