S. Korean transport industry's revenue logs double-digit growth in 2022

SEOUL, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The South Korean transport industry's revenue logged a double-digit growth last year on the back of higher demand for travel and transport after eased measures against the COVID-19 pandemic, government data showed Friday.

The revenue advanced 19.8 percent over the year to 232.5 trillion won (177.9 billion U.S. dollars) in 2022, according to Statistics Korea.

Sales in the air transport sector surged 57.9 percent to 23.4 trillion won (17.9 billion dollars), and the water transport sector's revenue spiked 36.2 percent to 63.4 trillion won (48.5 billion dollars).

Revenue in the land transport segment gained 7.5 percent to 81.9 trillion won (62.7 billion dollars), and sales in the storage and delivery sector expanded 13.0 percent to 63.9 trillion won (48.9 billion dollars).

The number of companies in the transportation industry stood at 598,404 in 2022, up 4.1 percent from the previous year.

The number of employees in the industry totaled 1,337,607 in 2022, up 1.6 percent from a year earlier.
