S. Korea's export rises 3.3 pct on year from Dec. 1 to Dec. 10

SEOUL, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export rose in the first 10 days of this month due to strong global demand for locally-made cars and tech products, customs office data showed Monday.

Export stood at 15.79 billion U.S. dollars in the Dec. 1-Dec. 10 period, up 3.3 percent from the same period of last year, according to Korea Customs Service.

The daily average export jumped 18.0 percent in the 10-day period. The monthly outbound shipment kept growing for the second straight month through November.

Chip export shrank 4.0 percent for the first 10 days of December, but automotive shipment advanced 13.2 percent. Shipment for mobile devices and home appliances expanded in double digits, but export for computers and auto parts declined in double figures. Import tumbled 15.3 percent from a year earlier to 17.2 billion dollars in the first 10 days of December, sending the trade deficit to 1.41 billion dollars.
