TOKYO, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Japan's core consumer prices rose 2.5 percent in November from a year earlier, the government said in a report on Friday.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the pace of the increase in the nationwide consumer price index (CPI), excluding fresh food prices because of their volatility, remained above the Bank of Japan's 2 percent inflation target for the 20th straight month.

The figure, however, marked the slowest gain since July 2022 by slowing from a 2.9 percent jump in October.

The core-core CPI, which strips away both energy and food prices, rose 3.8 percent, underscoring persistent inflationary pressures, the data showed.

While food costs witnessed a 7.3 percent increase during the cited period, service prices rose 2.3 percent, marking the sharpest gain in three decades when excluding the effects of past consumption tax hikes.

Due to government subsidies to reduce fuel costs, energy prices dropped 10.1 percent, the ministry said.

As the tourism industry recovers, accommodation costs increased 62.9 percent year on year in November.
