Afghan gov't issues over 3.2 mln electronic IDs in 12 months

KABUL, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) said Wednesday that more than 3.2 million national electronic identity cards (IDs) have been distributed to Afghan citizens over the past 12 months.

Since taking over power in August 2021, the Afghan caretaker government has distributed over 7.8 million electronic IDs, NSIA's acting director general Faqir Mohammad Ziyar told a government meeting.

According to Ziyar, since the start of issuing electronic IDs in 2018, more than 13.8 million Afghans have got electronic IDs.
