HANOI, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's national index of industrial production in February declined 18 percent against January and 6.8 percent year on year, according to the country's General Statistics Office (GSO) on Thursday.

In the first two months of 2024, the index increased 5.7 percent year on year, said the GSO.

The mineral exploitation sector reported a year-on-year decline of 3.5 percent during the cited period while the processing and manufacturing sector went up by 5.9 percent.

The electricity production and distribution sector expanded by 12.2 percent, and the water supply and waste management sector increased by 2.5 percent.

The index of industrial production in the two months increased in 56 localities nationwide and dropped in seven others, said the GSO.

Some localities have high industrial production index thanks to the upward trends in the processing, manufacturing sector and the electricity production and distribution.
