HANOI, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam recorded a year-on-year gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 5.66 percent in the first quarter of this year, higher than the same periods from 2020 to 2023, the country's General Statistics Office (GSO) announced Friday.

Specifically, the sector of agriculture, forestry and fishery grew by 2.98 percent against the same period last year, while the industry and construction sector grew 6.28 percent and services up 6.12 percent.

The three sectors respectively contributed 6.09 percent, 41.68 percent and 52.23 percent to the overall growth, said the office.

GSO's Director General Nguyen Thi Huong said the service sector recorded vibrant commercial activities. Tourism has recovered strongly thanks to favorable visa policies and stimulus programs. Export turnovers of key products recorded an upward trend.

The World Bank has forecast that Vietnam's economy is likely to grow 5.5 percent this year while the International Monetary Fund predicted its 2024 growth at 5.8 percent.
