S. Korea's imported car sales rebound in March

SEOUL, April 3 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's imported car sales rebounded in March due to higher demand for foreign luxury vehicles, industry data showed Wednesday.

The number of imported vehicles sold here was 25,263 in March, up 6.0 percent from a year ago, according to the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA).

It turned upward after sliding in double figures in January and February. For the first three months of this year, the imported vehicle sales declined 11.5 percent to 54,583 units compared to the same period of last year.

German automaker BMW ranked first in terms of automotive sales here among foreign companies by selling 6,549 units last month.

U.S. automaker Tesla came next with domestic sales of 6,025 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 4,197 units, Lexus with 1,218 units, Volvo with 1,081 units and Volkswagen with 949 units.

The number of European models sold here came to 15,854 last month, accounting for 62.8 percent of the total. U.S. and Japanese brands recorded market shares of 28.1 percent and 9.1 percent, respectively.
