Pakistan's food exports surge by 48 pct in first 9 months of FY 24

ISLAMABAD, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's food exports surged by 48.16 percent in the first nine months of the current fiscal year starting from July 2023 to June 2024, as compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal year, officials from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said on Friday.

The exports of various food commodities were recorded at 5.651 billion U.S. dollars during July-March of the ongoing fiscal year against the exports of 3.814 billion dollars in July-March of the previous fiscal year, according to the PBS.

The food commodities that contributed to positive growth in trade included rice, fruits, vegetables, tobacco, spices, oil seeds, nuts, meat and meat preparations, said the PBS.

Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, the food exports during March 2024 increased by 16.35 percent to 685.025 million dollars compared to the amount of 588.759 million dollars in March 2023.

On a month-on-month basis, food exports decreased by 2.36 percent in March 2024 compared to the exports of 701.565 million U.S. dollars in February 2024, according to PBS.
