SEOUL, June 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export volume rose for the ninth successive month due to strong demand for locally-made tech products, central bank data showed Friday.

The export volume index gained 6.3 percent in May from a year earlier, continuing to increase since September last year, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

In terms of volume, the outbound shipment for computer, electronic and optical devices, including semiconductors, jumped 14.1 percent in May on a yearly basis, keeping an upward trend for the 10th consecutive month.

Export volume for textiles, chemical products, machinery and equipment grew in single digits.

The export value index expanded 10.3 percent in May compared to the same month of last year after surging 13.1 percent in April.

The import volume index declined 0.6 percent in May from a year earlier after going up 7.1 percent in the previous month.

The import value index dwindled 1.6 percent last month, turning downward from an increase of 4.9 percent a month earlier.

The net terms-of-trade index for goods, or a ratio of export prices to import prices, was up 4.9 percent in May from a year earlier owing to higher export prices and lower import prices.
