U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, lost 0.06 percent to 105.256 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.0740 U.S. dollars from 1.0736 U.S. dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.2709 U.S. dollars from 1.2707 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 157.79 Japanese yen, higher than 157.70 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar declined to 0.8838 Swiss francs from 0.8899 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3716 Canadian dollars from 1.3722 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar dropped to 10.4380 Swedish kronor from 10.4811 Swedish kronor.
