S. Korea's producer price rises for 6th month in May

SEOUL, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Price for goods and service among South Korean suppliers rose for the sixth consecutive month due to higher service price, central bank data showed Friday.

The producer price index (PPI) added 0.1 percent in May compared with the previous month, continuing to increase since December 2023, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

Service price was up 0.5 percent in May due to higher cost for the information, communication and broadcasting service and the eatery and lodging service.

Producer price for electricity, natural gas and tap water increased 0.5 percent in May on a monthly basis after sliding 0.6 percent in the previous month.

Price for agricultural, livestock and fishery products among suppliers dipped 4.0 percent in May after retreating 3.0 percent in April.

Producer price for industrial products, including oil products, stood unchanged in May from a month earlier.

Price for coal and oil products declined 3.5 percent, but primary metal products price advanced 1.3 percent.
