ROME, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Italy and Mozambique on Monday signed an agreement for an agricultural development project in the African country, the Italian government said.

Under the initiative, Italy will fund the construction and equipping of an agrifood center in the town of Manica in western Mozambique.

The center is meant to operate as a regional hub for processing and distributing agricultural products, the Italian government said in a statement.

The project will be financed with 38 million euros (41 million U.S. dollars) from Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
