China Nonferrous Mining Corporation Limited (01258.HK) announced on Wednesday that the production of Baluba Center Mine and Slag Copper Recovery Project of Luanshya has been suspended since September 8, 2015, as a result of the force majeure event that Zambia has reduced power supply by about 30 percent.
Given this, production volumes of copper contained in concentrates of the Baluba Center Mine and the Slag Copper Recovery Project are expected to decrease by approximately 4,800 metric tons (tonnes) and 1,200 tonnes, respectively, by the end of the year, said the company.
According to announcements made by power supply companies in Zambia, the shortage of electricity supply may last till April 2016. The date of resumption of production is not yet determined at this stage, said the listed company.
