China's basic telecom operator China Unicom (CHU.NYSE; 00762.HK; 600050.SH) announced last Friday its mobile subscribers reached 287.86 million by the end of August, down 2.92 percent year on year.
In August, the company's mobile subscribers increased 556,000, comparing to an increase of 635,000 for the same period of 2014. China Unicom said its 3G and 4G mobile subscribers increased 4.8 million in August to 167.66 million.
In the fixed-line telecom business sector, China Unicom added 478,000 broadband subscribers in August, which brought the total to 71.53 million. Its local access subscribers decreased 278,000 in the month to 77.45 million.
