Taiwan's export orders saw year-on-year growth of 9.1 percent in May, on the back of global economic recovery and strong orders demand for electronic devices, according to data released by the island's economic authority Tuesday.

Export orders for the month stood at 36.8 billion U.S. dollars, the 10th consecutive month of growth.

Orders for all six major products registered a yearly increase in May, with orders for machinery, optical instruments, rubber and metal products leading the increase with double-digit growth.

The authority's statistics show that the United States was Taiwan' s biggest buyers in May, with combined orders totaling 10.4 billion U.S. dollars, followed by the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, which bought 9.6 billion U.S. dollars' products from Taiwan, a 14.5 percent increase from a year earlier.

On a month-on-month basis, Taiwan's export orders rose 3.4 percent in May.
