Macao's visitor arrivals up 1.8 pct in October

MACAO, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Visitor arrivals in Macao increased by 1.8 percent year-on-year to 3.21 million in October 2019, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistics department said on Friday.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that same-day visitors (1.73 million) increased by 8.1 percent year-on-year whereas overnight visitors (1.48 million) dropped by 4.8 percent. The average length of stay of visitors held steady year-on-year at 1.2 days.

Visitors from the Chinese mainland went up by 1.5 percent year-on-year to 2.34 million. Visitors from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (567,777) and China's Taiwan region (84,797) grew by 11.5 percent and 3.6 percent respectively, whereas those from South Korea (43,322) fell by 28.1 percent.

Analysed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by land increased by 21.6 percent year-on-year to 2.45 million in October. Visitor arrivals by air rose by 11.3 percent year-on-year to 318,451, while those by sea declined by 48.4 percent to 440,067.

In the first 10 months of 2019, visitor arrivals reached 33.41 million, a growth of 15.3 percent year-on-year. Same-day visitors (17.66 million) and overnight visitors (15.75 million) increased by 28.0 percent and 3.9 percent respectively.

The average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.2 days) and same-day visitors (0.2 day) remaining stable.
