Foreign visitors to Vietnam up 13 pct in 10 months

HANOI, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has so far this year hosted nearly 14.5 million international arrivals, increasing 13 percent against the same period last year, the General Statistics Office announced on Tuesday.

Between January and October, more than 11.5 million foreign tourists to Vietnam are from Asia, up 15.2 percent; nearly 1.8 million from Europe, up 5.5 percent; 807,500 from Americas, mainly from the United States, up 7.1 percent; about 368,400 from Oceania, mostly from Australia, down 1.1 percent and 38,900 from Africa, up 11.7 percent.

Specifically, Vietnam received roughly 4.6 million Chinese visitors, up 9.4 percent, accounting for around 31.6 percent of the total international arrivals in the 10-month period, according to the office.

In October alone, more than 1.6 million foreign tourists visited Vietnam, up 34.3 percent on-year. Nearly 56 percent of them are from China and South Korea.

Vietnam hosted roughly 15.5 million international arrivals last year, including nearly 5 million Chinese visitors and expects to welcome about 18 million foreign tourists and 85 million domestic travelers, gaining total tourism revenues of 700 trillion Vietnamese dong (30.4 billion U.S. dollars) this year.
