HARBIN, April 8 (Xinhua) -- An official investigation into the cause of a mine tailing leakage late last month has been launched in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, local authorities said Wednesday.
The leakage happened at 1:40 p.m. on March 28 at a tailings pond of the Yichun Luming Mining Co., Ltd. in the city of Yichun, Heilongjiang Province. The leakage was stopped on March 31, but some contaminated water had flowed into local rivers.
The provincial emergency management department has set up an investigation team of experts from the provincial environment, water resources and weather departments to look into the cause of the leakage.
In the meantime, production at the mining company has been halted and restrictive measures have been taken against the principal managers of the company.
