MACAO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Macao's gaming industry revenue tumbled by 94.5 percent year-on-year in July 2020, the special administrative region (SAR)'s gaming industry watchdog said here on Sunday.
Macao's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau said in its latest report that the gaming revenue was only 1,344 million patacas (about 168 million U.S. dollars) in July this year, a drastic decline of 94.5 percent from July 2019.
The accumulated revenue in the first seven months of 2020 reached 35.06 billion patacas (about 4.39 billion dollars), also down by 79.8 percent year-on-year.
The current COVID-19 pandemic has aggravated the subdued performance of gaming industry, as the SAR government had kept the tightened entry policy to curb the spread of the disease since late January this year.
Macao's monthly gaming revenue had kept a year-on-year growth for 29 consecutive months since August 2016. But the trend was ended as it recorded a decrease of 5 percent year-on-year in January 2019.
