President of China's Xinhua News Agency Cai Mingzhao met with Australian Associated Press (AAP) CEO Bruce Davidson and Editor-in-Chief Tony Gillies in Beijing on Wednesday.
Recalling the long-term friendly cooperation between Xinhua and AAP, Cai said Xinhua and AAP started news exchange in the 1990s, and re-signed a deal on news exchange in 2006. Both sides have conducted productive cooperation under the framework of AsiaNet, Cai said.
He said Xinhua is willing to further expand its cooperation with AAP, and initiate new cooperation in areas of photos, video and economic and financial information products. Cai also introduced Xinhua's development in new media and economic news and information services.
Speaking highly of the strong ties between the two agencies, Davidson said it is "good timing" for AAP and Xinhua to develop cooperation. As the free trade agreement between Australia and China will enter into force soon, an enhanced information flow on investment and trade will benefits both countries, said Davidson, calling for closer cooperation between the two agencies.
