Ukraine, China agree to increase cooperation in food industry

KIEV, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian and Chinese officials agreed on Thursday to increase the two countries' cooperation in food industry, according to the press service of the Ukrainian agrarian policy and food ministry.    

Acting minister Olga Trofimtseva met with a Chinese delegation headed by Lu Jingbo, deputy director of the national food and strategic reserves administration of China, during which the parties discussed creating an effective agricultural export logistics, and cooperating more in agrarian technology and agricultural machinery.    

"The cooperation of Ukraine and China in the field of agriculture is strategic, and investments in the agrarian sector of Ukraine are the key to the food security of China and the world as a whole," said Trofimtseva during the meeting.    

Lu Jingbo agreed with his Ukrainian partner and confirmed China's interest in strengthening agricultural cooperation between the countries.    

The parties agreed to start drafting the document which will outline the cooperation between the two sides. It is planned that this year the document will be signed in Beijing.    

China is one of the key trading partners of Ukraine and among the top five importers of Ukrainian agricultural products. Agricultural trade between the two countries amounted to more than 860 million U.S. dollars, while Ukrainian exports reached 795 million U.S. dollars during the first five months of this year, according to the Ukrainian ministry.    

Over the past two years, bilateral agricultural trade exceeded 1 billion U.S. dollars.
