China's major SUV manufacturers maintained rapid growth in the first three quarters.

China's largest SUV and pickup maker Great Wall Motor (02333.HK; 601633.SH) said Thursday its SUV sales in the first nine months amounted to 479,048 units, a rise of 38.35 percent year on year.

Its SUV sales in September alone were 54,978 units. Sales of the company's best-selling Great Wall Haval H6 continued to impress the market by exceeding the monthly gauge of 30,000 units in September, totaling 30,528 vehicles.

Also on Thursday, Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co. (JAC, 600418.SH) reported SUV sales of 22,862 units in September, skyrocketing 223.05 percent year on year. In the first nine months, its SUV sales came to 166,589 units, up 476.13 percent from the same period last year.

Driven by firm demand for its newly launched compact SUV model the Refine S2, JAC saw an increase of 17,600 units in sales in September compared to that in the previous month.

Meanwhile, Harbin Dongan Auto Engine (600178.SH), controlled by another leading automaker Changan Auto Group, posted a year-on-year rise of 88.64 percent in engine sales in September, hitting 10,692 units, thanks to hot sale of Changan's SUV models, especially the CS75 sports utility vehicles.
