Chinese airlines Hainan Airlines is looking to re-establish a direct flight between Shanghai and Brussels, local media reported on Friday.
Brussels Airport confirmed the news to local news site Brusselnieuws, adding that the plan would be to fly four times a week using an Airbus A330 or a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Airport spokeswoman Nathalie Van Impe told Brusselnieuws: "We have been negotiating for some time. We are obviously pleased that the company has made this next step and we hope that the connection will be back in the foreseeable future."
The site reports that Hainan flew from Shanghai to Brussels in 2010 and 2011, but the route was stopped in late 2011 because of low passenger numbers.
Belgium's King Philippe mentioned the return of the Brussels-Shanghai route during his state visit to China in June, Brusselnieuws added. Hainan already flies from Beijing to Brussels.
