China's Huawei has organized ICT training in China for representatives of regional economic communities (ERCs) in Africa and ICT officers of the African Union (AU). Huawei and the African Union (AU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) early this year for cooperation on ICT infrastructure development, including capacity building in the sector.
In implementing the MoU, the company has organized the ICT training in China, where representatives from the RECs of Africa will travel to attend the training on ICT policy and regulation. A ceremony was held on Friday at the AU Headquarters in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa ahead of the departure of the AU team comprised of representatives of RECs and also officers from the AU.
"This training you are going to enjoy and benefit from is very important, specially the topic on the governance, on the regulations," said Elham Ibrahim, AU Commissioner for Energy and Infrastructure. The Commissioner urged members of the mission to seize the opportunity of the travel for training to learn more about China. "It is also important to thank Huawei and China in general for their cooperation; for their support," said the Commissioner.
Speaking on the occasion, Gou Haidong, China Deputy Head of Mission to AU, noted that the ICT training program organized by Huawei would contribute to the support to Africans in building capacity in the sector and help them catch up with the rest of the world in technological advancement.
"With our global experience coupled with our extensive global network, Huawei is well positioned to share its latest ICT solution; we are ready and willing to share the best practice and latest ICT solution," said Roger Wu, Vice CEO of Huawei Ethiopia.
The training in China is expected to help the trainees better understand the technologies being used in Africa and help them provide advices with regard to ICT policy, regulations and how to implement the technologies better on the African continent.
