China has planned to cut corn planting areas by 50 million mu (about 333 million hectare) by 2020, in an effort to cope with a glut in the domestic corn market, according to a recent meeting held by the Ministry of Agriculture.
The country will try to cut the corn planting area by 10 million mu (15 mu equal one hectare) in 2016, according to Yu Xinrong, vice minister of agriculture. Statistics show that China's corn planting area increased 195 million mu in the past 11 years.
