Automobile output and sales embraces the traditional peak season. More than 2.6 million units of cars were produced and sold in China in September, the highest level in single month since this year, according to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). New energy vehicles sales also enjoyed rapid growth in September and its total sales reached nearly 400,000 units this year. Industry insiders viewed that new energy vehicles usually witness fast growth in the second half of a year, and its total sales for the whole year will reach the annual target of 700,000 units if the rapid growth keeps continuing in the next several months.
China’s automobile output and sales recorded 2.671 million units and 2.709 million units in September respectively, up by 27.6 percent and 23.9 percent on a monthly basis, and up by 5.5 percent and 5.7 percent year on year, respectively, according to data released by the CAAM on October 12. The figure stood at 20.349 million units 20.225 million units during January and September, up by 4.8 percent and 4.5 percent year on year, respectively.
Specifically, production and sales of passenger vehicles grew but the growth was slower than that of total automobiles. They reached 2.297 million units and 2.343 million units in September, which rose by 2.9 percent and 3.3 percent from a year earlier, respectively. In comparison, that of commercial vehicles kept fast increase on both monthly and yearly basis. 374,000 units and 367,000 units of commercial vehicles were produced and sold in September, up by 25 percent and 23.9 percent year on year.
The top ten automobile manufacturers with highest car sales in September included Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), Dongfeng Motor Corporation, FAW Group Corporation, Changan, BAIC, GAC Group, Geely, Great Wall, Brilliance and Chery. All of these ten auto manufacturers saw increasing car sales. For example, total car sales of SAIC reached 665,300 units in September, an increase of 15.78 percent year on year. Specifically, sales of SAIC Passenger Vehicle Company reported 50,000 units in the month, up by 41.64 percent year on year. SAIC-Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. sold 3,610 units of heavy trucks, up by 260.64 percent from a year earlier.
Vehicle sales and stock price of Geely both jumped. Its sales hit a new high at 108,900 units in September, presenting a year-on-year increase of about 42 percent. Geely indicated that the vehicle sales will make another new high record with the approach of traditional peak season, promotion of several models, and launch of all-new models in the fourth quarter.
With traditional peak season coming, new energy vehicles also showed the trend with rapid growth in the month. Output and sales of new energy vehicles came at 77,000 units and 78,000 units, up by 79.7 percent and 79.1 percent, respectively. Changan new energy vehicle sales reached 6,192 units, exceeding 6,000 units for two consecutive months. Pure electric passenger vehicle sales of JAC came at 3,021 units, up by 81.44 percent from 1,665 units at the same period of last year. Zotye Automobile sold 2,504 units of pure electric passenger vehicles in September, up by 94.56 percent year on year.
