Beijing municipality to hold hearing on multi-tier gas pricing

China's capital city Beijing would hold a public hearing on introduction of multi-tier pricing mechanism of residential natural gas recently, said a statement by Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform on Thursday.

China's cities with pipeline has supply should introduce multi-tier pricing mechanism of residential gas by the end of 2015, according to a document issued by National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in March 2014.

As much as 80 percent of households would not see increase of natural gas bill, according to the NDRC. Beijing has 5.74 million household users of pipeline natural gas with 99 percent of them belonging to residential households. Still, top 5 percent households consume 15 percent of total residential gas.

As the largest consuming city of natural gas, Beijing would see 1.5 billion cubic meters of residential gas consumption in 2015, 50 percent higher from that in 2010. Earlier, Beijing has introduced multi-tier pricing of electricity and water with obvious impacts on resource saving.
