China's coal industry is facing downward pressure as supply outstrips demand, according to Peng Jianxun, deputy director of the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety and vice chairman of the China National Coal Association.
China's coal industry has entered a period of weak demand, excessive production capacity and de-stocking, Peng said on Tuesday at an energy forum in Beijing.
China is likely to cut coal imports by around 80 million tonnes this year compared with the previous year, according to Peng.
