China's first national shale gas demonstration zone in Fuling, southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, has completed construction of the first phase project with an annual capacity of 5 billion cubic meters, according to the China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec).
The second phase construction with another 5 billion cubic meters of annual capacity was launched in the mean time. The field has produced 3.888 billion cubic meters of shale gas by now and its daily production is stabilized at 15 million cubic meters, which can meet the daily needs of 30 million households of three people.
China's Ministry of Land and Resources has confirmed that proved shale gas reserve of Fuling filed is 380.6 billion cubic meters. Liu Yijun, a professor with China University of Petroleum, says China's shale gas development depends on whether resources can be discovered continuously and it still needs to be proved by time.
