China will basically complete the construction of a nationwide electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure system by 2020, which can satisfy the demands of more than five million EVs, said Zheng Shanjie, deputy head with the National Energy Administration.

He added China is formulating new standards on EV charging facilities and the U.S. company Tesla is actively involved in defining the standards and will remold its cars in accordance. According to Zheng, China's cabinet, the State Council, has approved the Guidance on Boosting Infrastructure Construction for Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities, which will be publicized soon.

The document stipulates China will build a public charging station for every 2,000 EVs and encourage the construction of parking places equipped with charging facilities.
