The fifth edition of the Asian Logistics and Maritime Conference (ALMC) will be held on Nov. 17- 18 in Hong Kong on the "Belt and Road" initiative, e-commerce and Big Data analytics, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) said on Wednesday.

Raymond Yip, deputy executive director of the HKTDC, told the media that the ALMC, jointly organized by HKTDC and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, is a major annual event for the industry.

This year the number of exhibitors has been increased to 100 from last year's 80 and more discussion sessions will be included in the conference.

China's Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, e-commerce and Big Data analytics are three hot issues for the global logistics and maritime industry, which, Yip said, will be discussed among renowned speakers at the meeting.

Talking about e-commerce, Yip said, statistics show that total online retail sales reached 840 billion U.S. dollars in 2014, which doubled the amount five years ago.

This brought different challenges to the logistics industry players who had to meet growing demand for small-volume, high-frequency and time-sensitive delivery requirements.

More than 50 experts and leaders in the logistics and maritime sectors will explore new opportunities arising from the three big topics. Some 150 one-on-one business-matching sessions will be arranged to help exhibitors and conference participants expand business connections and explore new market opportunities.

Yip hoped that the conference will not only provide attendees with a platform to exchange information but also to create business opportunities. There had been more sellers than buyers at the conference in the past few years, he said, expecting the percentage of buyers to climb from 35 percent last year to 40 percent this year.

Since the inaugural event in 2011, the ALMC has grown in size and significance. About 1,700 industry players from 32 countries and regions attended last year's event.
