The Shanghai Consumer Council recently ordered the online meal ordering platforms to fix problems found out during its inspection, the cnstock.com reported on Friday.
According to the inspection jointly launched by the Shanghai Consumer Council and the Shanghai Municipal Food and Drug Administration, of the 100 restaurants inspected, only 39 unveiled recognizable photos of their business licenses and business certificates, of which only 19 saw their licenses tally with certificates.
The top four online meal ordering platforms include waimai.meituan.com, ele.me, waimai.baidu.com, and dd.taobao.com. The rate of restaurants showing their licenses and certificates in ele.me and waimai.baidu.com was only 13 percent and 25 percent, respectively.
According to the random inspection by the Shanghai Municipal Food and Drug Administration, many restaurants registered in the online meal ordering platforms did not have business certificates or operated beyond their business scope.
The new Food Safety Law implemented on October 1 stipulated that the network third-party platform for food transactions shall implement a real-name registration system for the network food operators and review the licenses of those which should obtain licenses.
