China's integrated circuit (IC) design industry is likely to report 123.416 billion yuan of sales in 2015, said Wei Shaojun, director-general of China Semiconductor Industry Association IC Design Branch Thursday.
The figure, an increase of 25.62 percent from a year earlier, was contributed by 54.047 billion yuan of sales from China's top 10 IC design companies this year, which took up 43.79 percent of the industry's total revenue.
However, the proportion still lagged behind the over 80 percent in Silicon Valley of the United States, hinting relatively low industry concentration and large development potential.
Nowadays, Chinese IC design firms do make breakthroughs in general strategic products such as microprocessor, semiconductor memory, programmable logic array device and digital signal processor, but they have not entered the mainstream market due to their products' weak functional and technological performances compared with global peers'.
