Visiting Editor-in-Chief of China's Xinhua News Agency He Ping and President and General Director of Athens News Agency-Macedonian Press Agency (AMNA) Michalis Psilos on Thursday signed a news cooperation agreement.

He said the agreement signing, which comes as China and Greece mark the 10th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership, will further Xinhua-AMNA cooperation in news reporting. The agreement will help the two sides exploit each other's advantage and promote mutual understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries, He added.

Olga Gerovassili, a Greek government spokesperson and deputy minister to the prime minister, hailed the inking of the Xinhua-AMNA agreement as a significant move in terms of enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation.

The Greek side is willing to provide more support for Xinhua in news reporting, Gerovassili added.

Also present at the signing ceremony were Chinese Ambassador to Greece Zou Xiaoli and Greek Secretary General of Communication and Media Lefteris Kretsos.

The Xinhua editor-in-chief during his visit also met with leaders of Editor's Daily, the website "The pressroom" and the newspaper Democracy.
