BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tech giant Huawei on Wednesday unveiled a domestic artificial intelligence database as the company seeks to redefine data infrastructure through a strategy that combines data and intelligence.

The AI-Native Database named GaussDB pioneers the embedding of AI capabilities into the full lifecycle of distributed databases, making their self-operation and maintenance, self-tuning, self-diagnosis, and self-healing possible, according to a statement from Huawei.

The company also rolled out FusionStorage 8.0, a highest-performance intelligent distributed storage to improve the data storage and flow efficiency.

"Data is the new factor of production, and intelligence the new productivity. Heterogeneous, intelligent, and converged databases will become the key data infrastructure of the financial, government, and telecoms industries," said David Wang, Huawei executive director of the board and president of ICT Strategy & Marketing.

Last October Huawei announced its AI strategy, which is to invest in basic research and talent development, build a full-stack, all-scenario AI portfolio, and foster an open global ecosystem.

The Shenzhen-based firm predicts that by 2025, the world will see upwards of 40 billion personal smart devices, and 90 percent of device users will have a smart digital assistant. Data utilization will reach 86 percent and AI services will be readily available.
