WASHINGTON, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Restricting Huawei from doing business in the United States will not make the country more secure or stronger but eventually harm "the interests of U.S. companies and consumers," Huawei said Wednesday in a media statement sent to Xinhua.

Huawei made the statement after the U.S. Department of Commerce announced to add Huawei and its affiliates to the Entity List of the department's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), restricting the sale or transfer of American technology to the enlisted company.

Noting that Huawei is "ready and willing to engage with the U.S. government and come up with effective measures to ensure product security," the company said, "Restricting Huawei from doing business in the U.S. will not make the U.S. more secure or stronger; instead, this will only serve to limit the U.S. to inferior yet more expensive alternatives, leaving the U.S. lagging behind in 5G deployment, and eventually harming the interests of U.S. companies and consumers."

"In addition, unreasonable restrictions will infringe upon Huawei's rights and raise other serious legal issues," said the company based in southern China.

Earlier in the day, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order entitled "Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain," declaring a national emergency to "prohibit transactions posing an unacceptable risk" to the U.S. national security or the safety of U.S. people.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, the sale or transfer of American technology to a company or person on the Entity List requires a license issued by BIS, and the U.S. authority has the right to deny a license if the sale or transfer is regarded as harmful to U.S. national security or foreign policy interests. The listing will be effective when published in the Federal Register.
