The Chinese government has set a floor target to increase at least 19.81 GW of installed wind power capacity from 2016 to 2020, though it is still mulling over the exact target for capacity expansion, Li Peng, an official of the National Energy Administration (NEA), said on Wednesday at the China Wind Power Conference in Beijing.
The market estimated that the capacity expansion target would be set at 250 TW for the five years ending 2020. The Chinese government is paying more attention to low operation rates of wind farms instead of setting targets for installed capacity when formulating the 13th Five-year Plan (2016-2020) on Wind Power, according to Li. In addition, the government will provide financial support to wind power companies and reinforce implementation of power transmission policies.
